Monsoon

Brought to you by: Bill Thorson and John McBride

Monsoon is a mailing list for those who are professionally active in the research or forecasting of monsoons worldwide. Its purpose is interaction between researchers and forecasters as well as between forecasters from different regions. Subject matter is anything to do with monsoons, ranging from today's weather to interannual variability and climate change, and including such issues as agricultural and health impacts.

The discussion list is endorsed by the World Meteorological Organisation Commission for the Atmospheric Sciences (CAS) Working group on Tropical Meteorological Research. It also was set up partly in response to a recommendation of an international meeting of researchers and forecasters with an interest in the tropics, as reported by R.K. Smith et al., Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society: Vol. 82, No. 12, pp. 28252830.

The monsoon mailing list has been operating since June 2003. It was hosted on tstorms.org by Bill Thorson at Metlogic.com where list management is provided via the mailinglist software Mailman. In February of 2011, the list moved to it's current home at the Regional and Mesoscale Meteorology Branch (RAMMB) of NOAA/NESDIS at the Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere (CIRA).
